On 16 December 2008 a legislative package of four Regulations was adopted by the EuropeanParliament and Council, consisting of regulation (EC) No 1332 ff /2008 on food additives, food enzymes, flavourings and on a common procedure for evaluation and authorisation of these substances (EC) No 1331 /2008.
Regulation (EC) No 1333/2008 on food additives replaced previous Directives.
Food additives should be approved and used only if they fulfill the criteria laid down in this regulation.
